Construction defect litigation is accomplishing several results for the acoustical profession:1) It is producing large amounts of data on the field results of wall and floordesigns, plumbing systems, and footfall noise, 2) It is exposing the immediate need for testprotocols and standards in areas such as plumbing and footfall noise, 3) It is exposing theweaknesses of many of the conventional techniques for noise control used in originalconstruction and as remedies for remedial construction, and 4) It is exposing the need forbetter quality control and oversight by the acoustical consultant in original construction.
