Canola is more difficult to store without spoilage than cereals because it 43 to 45% oil, Compared to 1.9% oil, by dry mass in wheat. Temperature and moisture content play a major role in the storability of canola. For long-term safe storage of canola at temperatures between 20 to 30°C, the moisture content should be reduced to 8% or less. Seeds can be damaged during heated air drying, therefore, near-ambient drying or low-temperature drying should be used for drying canola. Canola should not be heated above 45°C for seed use and above 65°C for commercial use. Insects are not a major problem in stored canola but mites can be a severe problem on stored damp canola.
