How to Design Battery Packs: BB2590 and Land Warrior

The use of a computer-based design methodology for battery packs is illustrated using Army packs. A physics-based model for an 18650-size lithium-ion cell is used to guide the design of a high-energy cell (2.7 Ah). The same model is used in pack simulations to estimate the thermal behavior. Pack simulations are compared with experimental results.
