Using FX-4000 strain unit, the proliferation and viscoelasticity of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells that underwent different mechanical strain were investigated. Flow Cytometer and A micropipette aspiration technique were adopted to investigate the proliferation and viscoelasticity of A549 cells. A standard linear solid model was adopted to fit the experimental data. Experimental results indicated that cell proliferation index (PI) and viscoelastic coefficients K_1, K_2 and μ reduce significantly after A549 cells are subjected to square wave with 15% elongation at frequency 0.5Hz for 4h, the PI and viscoelastic coefficients have no distinct difference between sine wave-treated cells and control A549 cells. The deformability increases and the rigidity decreases for square wave-treated cells. while the PI of A549 cells reduces significantly, the viscoelastic coefficient of A549 cells reduces significantly similarly. All of these suggest that We can restrain A549 cells proliferation by alter cells viscoelasticity.
