The manufacture of lightweight aluminium P/M components has traditionally attracted much attention because of their good combination of relative strength and ductility. In the present study commercial Ecka Alumix 431D aluminium alloy powder has been sintered in a wide range of experimental conditions in order to establish the optimum processing parameters, which could assure the high density and thus a good mechanical properties. Compaction pressure was varied from 100 MPa to 700 MPa. Sintering under nitrogen was carried out within a temperature range between 580 and 600°C. Finally, except optimising the process parameters, also the effect of all investigated parameters on density, dimensional changes and mechanical properties of sintered 431D aluminium alloy was shown.
