Performance Analysis of Storage Tank with Natural Insulating Material in Solar Water Heater System

Temperature decrease of water is the main problem in the storage tank. To defend water temperature, storage tank must have good insulating material. The purpose of this research is to determine the performance of the storage tank with a combination of naturally insulating material. The storage tank is composed of two layers of insulating material. Data are retrieved using data logger that connected to measuring instruments are waterproof NTC thermistor and usual thermistor to measure temperature. Measuring instrument is placed in the middle of the storage tank, three thermistors in each insulating material wall and a waterproof NTC thermistor in the inlet section and outlet section of the storage tank. This research is done by experiment, hot water at 45°C enters to storage tank from the solar water heating system. Based on the calculation of an analysis, the best combination of insulating material is brick and soil. The total heat loss i.e. 6172,96 Watt, effectiveness i.e. 0,41 and holding time water temperature until 24 hours.
