Field testing of mercury emissions while burning Kentucky and Illinois coals with different chlorine contents has been conducted at a Power Plant in Kentucky. A mobile (53-foot) laboratory was developed to assist in the project. The mercury in the flue gas was trapped in solutions using the Ontario Hydro Method, which were then analyzed using automatic digestion and analysis instrumentation. The flue gas also was analyzed with a PS Analytical Semi-Continuous Emissions Monitoring (SCEM) system for the speciation of mercury. A comparison between the two methods was made. Mercury speciation at the testing locations (upstream of the air heater, before the dust collector and after ESP system) are presented and discussed.
