Engine Speed Control Unit for an Aircraft Jet Engine with Coolant Injection into the Combustor

The paper deals with an aircraft single jet turbo engine with coolant injection into its combustion chamber. In order to improve the engine's behavior, the coolant injection system (CIS) was correlated to the fuel control unit (FCU) of the engine, so it has result a new engine speed controller. The correlation valve was modeled starting from its non-linear equations, then brought to a linear dimensionless form and was added to the embedded system model, described by its block diagram with transfer functions. The embedded system (engine+ FCU+ CIS) quality was evaluated by studying its time behavior (some Simulink-Matlab simulations were performed), considering as single input the power lever angle (PLA), comparing system's behavior with and without correlation. Quantitative determinations are based on previous research results developed in Aerospace Engineering Laboratories in University of Craiova and on existing aircraft engines models (taken from technical scientific literature and author's previous contributions).
