Estimation of Optical Parameters of Chicken Liver Tissue via Single Integrating-Sphere System

Lasers are clinically used in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. For correct diagnosis and treatment planning, it is important to know the light propagation in tissue, how much it penetrates, and the optical parameters of the tissue. In order to determine the optical properties of the tissue, diffuse reflectance and diffuse transmittance measurements are needed. These measurements can be performed by using integrating sphere systems. In this study, the optical properties of chicken liver tissue has been obtained with a single-integrating sphere system and the inverse adding-doubling software. Absorption coefficient and reduced scattering coefficient of the chicken liver tissue have been found to be 0.25 mm-1 and 0.65 mm-1, respectively. These values are in good agreement with the values in the literature.
