The paper presents an application of dynamic programming to the identification of optimal parameters of tree-structure energy pipeline networks. The identification of the optimal parameters of tree-structure energy pipeline network is as follows: the determination of pipeline diameters; the determination parameters and locations of pumps. The paper highlights the following main cases of this problem: identification of optimal parameters of a new pipeline networks to be designed; optimization of an existing pipeline networks to remove bottlenecks; ensuring of optimal transmission capacity for an expanding existing pipeline network. A unified conceptual and mathematical statement of the problem, covering all the cases of the above problem, are presented. The algorithm for identifying tree-structure energy pipeline networks that were proposed in the paper have been developed at the Melentiev Energy Systems Institute of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences within the framework of the hydraulic circuits theory. The developed methodological support can be applied to design of tree-structure energy pipeline networks.
