Recent 5G initiatives pave the way to enable cutting-edge services improving on performance and costs of the current TCP/IP applications. The key enabling technologies are those enabling virtualization of both the network components (i.e. SDN) and the Network Functions on the top (i.e. NFV). In the framework, the provisioning of CDN services could benefit from the intrinsic satellite broadcasting channel, if the satellite operators get ready to support such new communication paradigms. In the this paper, the author discusses on the network configuration updates needed in the satellite operator network in order to be efficiently involved in a dynamic and cost-effective deployment of an efficient CDN service based on the satellite multicast.
