Study for further introduction of the Electronic Frequency converters to the Tokaido Shinkansen

In the Tokaido Shinkansen, frequency conversion systems are used for unification of the feeding electric power frequency. For the base power, rotary frequency changers are used for these tolerances against inrush current or temporary heavy load current. Then, the frequency conversion equipment are mainly composed by the rotary frequency changers. In this report, studies are done for further introduction of the electronic frequency converters, replacing rotary frequency changers. And, progresses for replacements are realized by investigating controls, blocking and re-drive system, with reducing special rating.
