This paper discuss a distinctive method to realize the slow-wave phenomenon in a microwave frequency domain which is based on surface electromagnetic waves in a one-dimensional (1D) waveguide consisted of MNG-DPS-MNG structures. The dispersion curves of our waveguide are different with different parameters (unit capacitors) of MNG metamaterials. We can obtain slow propagation of the surface waves at different cutoff frequencies only by changing the unit capacitors of the MNG metamaterials. The experimental results show the lowest velocity in our waveguide can be equal to c/45, which is in good agreement with results of simulations.
