In this paper, the design, optimization, and analysis of a low-cost high-speed 4/2 poles switched reluctance motor (SRM) for electric supercharger (ESC) are presented. The proposed motor simply consists of only cores with ferromagnetic material lamination and concentrated windings on the stator. First, the core material is selected and stator geometry is optimized by implementing Genetic Algorithm (GA) to reduce radial force which may lead to reduced vibration and noise during operation. Then, the electrical characteristics of the motor are examined with finite element analysis (FEA). In order to further reduce the cost, a simple hall-effect sensor is used to excite the phase. Dynamic analysis shows the viability of the proposed design.
