In this paper, the magnetic source topologies effect of the flux-modulated motor is investigated from the perspective of power factor, which aims to improve the motor performances. Firstly, the power factor of the motor with the principle of flux-modulated is derived, which is closely related to the magnetic source and pole slot of the motor. Secondly, the effects of different permanent magnet (PM) magnetic source topologies and pole slot combination on the power factor of the motor are investigated and compared. The analysis results show that the surface-embedded flux-modulated with the pole slot combination of 18/28 can offer high power factor and high output torque.
