A five level H-bridge Shunt Active Power Filter that uses variable sampling frequency and a Genetic Algorithm fitted predictive control model to achieve excellent harmonic tracking with low device switching frequency, for More Electric Aircraft Electrical Power System (with a supply frequency in the range 360 Hz to 800 Hz) is proposed in this paper. The Predictive Control Shunt Active Power Filter is designed to track 5th and 7th harmonic current references up to 5600 Hz with nominal tracking errors less than ±2% while using a relatively low device switching frequency. The system is modelled and simulated in Matlab/Simulink and an analysis of the excellent tracking result using the Variable Sampling and Genetic Algorithm based model is provided.
