Lessons Learned During Rehabilitation of the North Mimico STS and South Mimico STS, Toronto, Canada

After completing an assessment of the City of Toronto's sanitary trunk sewer (STS) network, rehabilitation of several sewers were identified as requiring various degrees of repair. Rehabilitation of North Mimico STS and South Mimico STS was recommended and completed in 2017/2018. Rehabilitation of these sewers within the environmentally sensitive Mimico Creek floodplain proved challenging during design and in construction, including working within a golf course, several creek crossings, temporary bypass, and structural rehabilitation of MHs. This project was especially challenging as the work, which included rehabilitation of over 1 km of STS ranging from 675 mm to 1350 mm diameter, bypass, access routes and restoration, was required to be completed within 5 months, over the winter.
