Newly developed Submerged Membrane Electro-Bioreactor (SMEBR) pilot system was installed and operated in the City of l’Assomption (Quebec, Canada). This paper presents the results obtained from the pilot test with regard to effluent quality, membrane fouling, and electrodes lifetime. Results at steady state showed that the removal efficiencies of COD, ammonia (as NH_3~+ - N) and phosphorous (as PO_4~3- -P) were 92%, 99% and 99%, respectively. Membrane fouling was marginal as the trans-membrane pressure showed no increase over the entire operation. Electrodes were found to last for five months before replacement.
