50 Years of Fibers and Integrated Optics

摘要

Research and development of fibers and integrated optics have a long history over a half century. The history is briefly reviewed and the recent progress of space and mode division mulplexing transmission using multi-core and few mode fibres is introduced focusing on the review of mode theory of optical fiber.
