Simulation and Development of Impulse Ultrawideband Signal Generators for Wireless Communication Systems

A block diagram and electric circuit of impulse radio ultrawideband signal generator based on step recovery diode are presented. The simulation results of the impulse radio ultrawideband signal generator with step recovery diode indicates the possibility of receiving at its output an impulse radio ultrawideband signal with a time duration less than 1 nanosecond, 0.3 - 2.5 GHz frequency bandwidth and a pulse amplitude that does not exceed 0.3...0.45 voltages. A prototype of impulse radio ultrawideband signal generator printed-circuit board also was developed, manufactured and tested. Test results shown that this prototype can generate impulse radio ultrawideband signal which occupies 0.6 - 2.7 GHz frequency bandwidth. This paper may be useful for impulse radio ultrawideband wireless communication system developers and researchers.
