Stress based shear deformation theories for anisotropic laminated plates are difficult to implement because of the discontinuity of bending stresses at the ply interface. A model which uses displacement assumptions in conjunction with interlaminar stresses derived from equilibrium is investigated. Details of this approach are considered in conjunction with a [0°/90°]_s laminate under cylindrical bending. Resulting constitutive relations are shown to reduce to those of Reissner plate theory for the case of homogeneous, orthotropic plates
