An Empirical Study on the Contribution of Energy Industry Development to Economic Growth in Shaanxi Province

Energy industry is a major driving force for national economic growth. Shaanxi is an energy-rich province. Its energy industry has become one of the eight pillar industries, which has played an irreplaceable role to the economic development in Shaanxi Province. First of all, this paper investigates direct contribution of the energy industry to economic development in Shaanxi; then analyses the indirect contribution of energy industry according to the input-output table of Shaanxi Province in 2007; finally, this article examines empirically the dynamic relationship between energy industry and economic development. The results indicate that the contribution of the development of the energy industry in Shaanxi Province to economic growth increased year by year, and the importance went up continuously.
