The aim of the current study was to evaluate the impact of chitosan derivatives, namely N-octyl octyl-chitosan and N- octyl octyl-O-sulphate chitosan, incorporated in calcium phosphate implants on the release profiles of model drugs. The rate and extent of cal calcein (M ein MW 650 Da) and FITC W FITC- Dextran (MW 40 Kda) in vitro release were monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy. The results obtained showed that by tailoring the properties of the polymers (hydrophilic/hydrophobic) the desired drug release profile can be obtai obtained. Ned.
