THE FORMALDEHYDE INDUSTRY AND SENSITIVITY TO METHANOL PRICE SETTING

In this presentation we intend to give a brief overview and update of the global formaldehyde industry, and at the same time we would like to express some thoughts around methanol pricing methods. Together with steam, methanol is the only raw material utilised for making formaldehyde. Hence the price of methanol is the dominant cost driver in the production of formaldehyde, and formaldehyde and its derivatives are extremely sensitive to the price changes of methanol. Other important cost elements are energy costs and the catalysts.
