Population growth and increasingly stringent regulatory controls on water quality across North America have resulted in municipal governments investing heavily in infrastructure to control what are known as Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs). These are events which occur when combined sewers exceed their conveyance capacity during periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt.
