In the 1755 the Theatre Manzoni in Pistoia was restored by one of the best acoustic designers (Antonio Galli Bibiena) at that time; as far as it concerns its use, the building goes back to the 1642 but only after the exemplary above mentioned restoring work it can be considered a major Opera House from an architectural point of view. Thus, the integration of a new architectural element (orchestra shell) in an ancient building like the Manzoni Theatre has been particularly delicate: it asked for not only a functional analysis based on the object itself, but also a deeply study about the aesthetics of the theatre. Hence, only at this point it can provide the use of more advanced systems (i.e. double frequency band diffusers developed through three different shapes, digital controlled ceiling etc.) applied to a suitable shape of the orchestra shell. The results of the acoustical measurements will be proposed through analysis of the usual objective acoustical parameters, but above all E.D.T., C-80 and G-strength with and without the new plan.
