The growing demands and diversity of software applications have led to an increased interest in the development of configurable operating systems. However, opening an operating system to modifications can severely compromise the integrity of the system and its applications. This paper introduces MetaOS, a configurable system that allows an application to change system services at run-time, while protecting the system and other applications from any adverse effects.
