Preparation of carbon foams with supercritical foaming method

Carbon foam was prepared with supercritical foaming method followed by oxidization, carbonization and graphitization .Mesophase pitch, toluene were used as the precursor and supercritical fluid, respectively. The detail foaming technologies were investigated including the ratio of toluene/mesophase pitch, foaming temperature, foaming pressure and releasing speed. The results showed that the pore size of carbon foams was generally distributed in the rang of 20 to 200 μm with the comprehensive strength of 3 MPa.
