Crude oils are complex hydrocarbon mixtures containing nonpolar n-paraffins and polar components, such as aromatic hydrocarbons and asphaltenes. At high temperature, crude oils behave as Newtonian fluids with low viscosities [1]. But at low temperature, the solubility of long chain paraffins and asphaltenes decreases sharply. In petroleum production, the resulting dispersion of long- chain paraffin solids and asphaltenes can lead to deposition at the pipe walls, reducing oil flow and potentially blocking the pipeline.
