The aim of this work was to examine the applicability of ultrafiltration and zeolite-GAC filter used for pre-treatment of micro-polluted source water in arid areas in order to improve the removal efficiency of pollutants, and its treatment effect and affecting factors were investigated. The results show that under the Zeolite-GAC Filter conditions of 40 ~60min HRT( hydraulic retention time) , air-water ratio 1:1, and water temperature 15~25°C , the removal rate of NH3-N , CODMn, UV254, and turbidity is averaged at 95% ,32.68%, 9.42% and 70.1%,respectively, with high resistance to shock loading.The result also showed that Zeolite-UF Filter could remove turbidity effectively, but it could not remove dissolved organic matter and lower molecular weight pollutants. Adding UF to the system enhanced the removal efficiency of Zeolite-GAC filter for CODMn , NH3-N , Turbidity and colority. It also showed that under the same conditions of HRT, air-water ratio, and water temperature, the organic content, NH3-N , Turbidity and colority of effluent decreased firstly and then was steady during the course of the operation.
