With continuous increase of heavy crude in worldwide supply, petroleum coke as the final product of refining, its output is steadily increasing. How to utilize the abundant petroleum coke, especially those with high sulfur content has arisen as an urgent problem.Gasification technology with near-zero pollution emissions will be a new way to utilize petroleum coke. So it is significant to study and improve the slurry ability of petroleum coke because it is the first and crucial step of gasification. In order to improve its slurry ability, petroleum coke was mixed with the black liquor. Black liquor is from paper making industry waste water and containing plenty of lignin which is widely used as dispersant of coal water slurry. In this paper the comparison of the slurry ability of petroleum coke and the petroleum coke loading with black liquor was studied. The optimum loading content of black liquor, the highest solid concentration and the stability of petroleum coke-water slurry were analyzed to investigate the effect of black liquor on the slurry property of petroleum coke.
