SOM has made it part of its ethos and philosophy to continually explore new holistic directions in all of its projects, and particularly in tall buildings. These efforts include exploring the use of existing high performance enclosure solutions that are already available today, as well as developing new methods to help increase performance such as "iterative energy modeling for facades". This paper will examine three areas -structural-facade integration, glass advancements, and performative complexity -where recent SOM projects have implemented these concepts in various ways in order to enhance the design and performance of tall buildings.
