A productivity model for manufacturing tool installation has been developed under the auspices of thernConstruction Research and Education for Advanced Technology Environments at Arizona State Universityrn(CREATE). The model evaluates the man-hours required to install manufacturing tools. The prediction of the manhoursrnis based on variables such as type of design (2D CAD or manual vs. 3D-CAD), description of connections,rnsize of the tool and ease of penetration and routing through the waffle floor. The model has been implementedrnthrough a computer program called Design and Installation Time Calculator (DITC) and real-life data has been usedrnto validate it. This article provides an analysis of the influence of the size of the manufacturing tools and the size ofrnpenetrations (pop-ups) on the productivity of tool installation design using DITC. The results are shown separatelyrnfor three different trades: electrical, mechanical and piping. The analysis shows how each trade is influenced byrnchanges in the size of the production tools and by how much.
