New FEC Strategies for Software ITU-T Multimedia Teleconferencing Systems

According to ITU-T H.32x recommendations, the (511, 493) binary systemic BCH code should be the FEC code of H.26x video data, however no FEC code is proposed to correct errors of data other than video. In this paper we propose a set of new FEC strategies, which are mainly based on the m=8 binary RS codes and the theory of unequal error protection, to correct various forms of data such as video, audio and other data in H.32x and T.120 software multimedia teleconferencing systems. Error emulation tests with actual software H.324 and T.120 multimedia teleconferencing systems show that the reliability of data transmission is effectively enhanced; therefore the service quality of both systems is improved.
