Coupling Effect between Accelerating Units of Dielectric Wall Accelerator

The dielectric wall accelerator(DWA), based on technologies of solid-state pulse forming lines, photocouductive semiconductor switches and high gradient insulators, is a new concept pulsed linear accelerator being developed at Institute of Fluid Physics, CAEP. During accelerator test process, the energy gain of accelerated proton beam is much lower than expected. We found that the coupling effect induced connecting circuit is a major factor of causing lower beam energy gain. In this paper, we have confirmed that circuit and accelerating structure coupling between accelerating units are inevitable. The circuit topologies of two kinds of coupling effects are given. The coupling effects between accelerating units are studied, and the coupling efficiency of multiple accelerating units is measured.
