To ensure the sufficient gas permeability and drainage of liquids in the lower blast furnace zone will become more difficult due to volatile markets of raw materials, primarily coking coals; this will be particularly challenging at large blast furnaces with big hearth diameter operating with high specific productivity, low coke rate and ultra-high injection rate. Conventional methods to convert high amount of injected substances within the raceway, to keep the zone between the raceway and the deadman active and to prevent accumulation of fines in the deadman are limited.
