In this study, the influence of communication signals on an electrode for electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring was examined. A signal, that is assumed to be from a wireless body area network (WBAN), is transmitted to the electrode on a phantom. The difference in receiving power under various measurement conditions is examined, such as distance, frequency, and the number of electrodes. The distance between the electrode and WBAN antenna was set at 3 cm, 5 cm, or 10 cm. The operating frequencies were set at 403.5 MHz, 444.5 MHz, 953 MHz; and 2450 MHz at the WBAN antenna. One or two electrodes were under the examination. Result shows that only for 403.5 MHz, the distance characteristic is different from those at other frequencies, in the case of one electrode. The distance characteristics are different for each frequency considered, in the case of two electrodes. In particular, the signals induced on the electrode in the case of 953 MHz were considerably weaker than those at other frequencies.
