An Energy Storage Planning and Analysis of Microgrid: A College Campus Case Study

Recently, there has been a push by various governments and environment organizations for the utilization of renewable energy resources like wind and solar energies. However, the unreliable availability of such sources is a huge concern and a major roadblock to their wide-scale implementation. One proposed solution of this problem is the use of batteries for storing the energy from such fluctuating energy resources. In this paper, a feasibility study has been carried out for battery storage system (BSS) with in the college campus. Campus consists of five different solar generating nodes of 5 kW each. Analysis has been done for the various generation and load data of these plants and calculated the optimal amount of energy backup required for microgrid in terms of battery bank.
