Transmission Congestion Management with FACTS Devices Using SOS Algorithm

This work proposes a symbiotic organism search (SOS)-based algorithm for solving transmission congestion problem. SOS based evolutionary technique is used for the ideal coordination of FACTs controllers with the VAR power source present in transmission network. Thyristor-controlled series capacitors (TCSC) and static VAR compensator (SVC) are used in the current issue in IEEE-14 bus system. The comparative results between SOS and particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based technique at various loadings are presented in this work. From the obtained result, it is observed that SOS yields superior results when compared to PSO in terms of real power loss and running cost.
