The explosion event of the chemical workshop in Jilin Petrochemical Company led to a substantial pollution to Songhua River. Aiming at the pollution event, PAC is chosen to be the suitable material to adsorb nitrobenzene. In the laboratory experiment, based on adsorption capacity and adsorption rate when nitrobenzene was different times beyond the standard by jar tests, the best carbon was ascertained, which was the wood PAC made in Tangshan, China. And then, the optimal PAC adding dosage and the optimal adsorption time concerning the nitrobenzene concentration various times over the standard were obtained, which was that when nitrobenzene concentration was 5-10 times over the standard, the optimal PAC feeding dosage and touching time was 30-80mg/L and more than 2h, respectively. In the following productive experiments, the result that the removal effective was achieved while the PAC dosed in the water intake inlet was obtained. However, the key factor of the succession of the technology is that sufficient touching time must exist. The measurement result of GC/MS showed that PAC was advantageous in the removal of small polar organic such as aromatic hydrocarbon.
