IF Steel Production - Some Aspects Concerning Special Requirements Regarding Thin Slab Processes

Opening new markets by extending the manufactured product range will be a key issue not only for the thin-slab casting and rolling technology in China in the coming years. One important group of steel grades will be low- and ultra-low carbon grades with their flagship IF steel. These products target mainly the "white" and the automobile industry with their challenging demand for perfect products. The paper will describe some basic considerations concerning the production of IF steel with a special focus on the demand of thin-slab processes. First trials at domestic and the present situation at other thin-slab plants will be outlined.
