This paper briefly describes the principle of EEI of P-P wave, revealing new characteristics for fluid, inversion process and established the basic flow for predicting fluid and distinguishing gas with water. We summarized the regulation for EEI varying with incident angle under the condition of gas-bearing or water-bearing reservoirs by forward modeling with multi-angle, and established the criterion for discriminating gas and water. A correlation method for determining the equivalent between theoretical and actual value of incident angle for EEI is also presented. Finally, experiments for detecting gas and water in carbonate reservoir were done u-sing the proposed method, which obtained the good results and show its application potential in future.
