Ideas about the Mineral Resources Developmentin the Western Region

China's western region covers 12 provinces and municipalities and has a land space of 6.867square kilometers, accounting for 71.5% of the total land space and 28.6% of the total national population. Since the implementation of Western Development in 2000, a batch of influential principal projects are put into operation; infrastructure construction has made substantial steps; protection and construction of natural environment are greatly enhanced; great progress has been made in the adjustment of economic structure; multiple-ownership economy is under healthy development; opening-up to the outside is further enlarged; the national economy maintains a good momentum of fast and healthy development. After the construction of a new cabinet, it takes the implementation of western development strategy as an arduous task under the important agenda and will steadfastly push forward western development with greater decision, more forceful measures and more down-to-earth work. In March, 2004, "Several Suggestions Concerning Further Enhancement of the Western Development" issued by the State Council pointed out 10 measures to go on pushing forward the western development. Mineral resources development in the west occupies a pivotal position in the western development and even the development of national economy. Reasonable development of western mineral resources has a significant meaning.
