The lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation is one of the most prolific carbonate reservoirs in east Sichuan basin producing hydrocarbons from the oolitic beach rocks, ' light spot' technique has been successfully used to interpret reservoirs, but there are also some failure cases. In this study, sequence stratigraphy is employed for the analysis of depositional facies and the sedimentary model associated with the oolitic beach, and a dry hole is predicted by this method in SZ structure. Detailed studies after recently drilled a borehole Puguan 1 by the same technique and the results shows that the sedimentary architecture of oolitic beach is similar to that in SZ structure, so the sedimentary model and face prediction about the oolitic beach reservoirs in Feixianguan Formation is the key factor. At present, those results have been applied to gas exploration and exploitation in northeast Sichuan basin.
