摘要

A wide variety of stickie organic contaminants enters the papermakers process with the recycled furnishes. The most effective method to controlling stickie contaminants is to establish an effective comprehensive deposit prevention approach that can address the most common papermaking processes and equipments. There are a wide range of treatment chemistry approaches (i.e. talc, cationic fixative polymers, surface active polymers, cationic surfactants and inorganic chelants) that are marketed for controlling stickies deposition. The difficulty has been in the product selection process as to which technology provides the greatest probability of success. Too often suppliers attempt to market only one or too few product chemistry technology classes. In many cases, this results in the wrong and/or costly solution attempts. The ideal approach is to offer the complete line of chemical technology classes and then through a non-prejudiced perspective allow the customers process and contaminant requirements dictate the most cost effective treatment approach. This paper discusses the Kemira Organic Deposit Test (KODT), and its usefulness in the field for the selection of the most cost effective deposit control technology. This test utilizes the customer's specific furnish type and process conditions. A case study of SCA South Glens Falls, NY illustrates the significant benefits that derived from utilizing a comprehensive stickies control program. This study is an example of how the KODT accurately determines the optimum wet end treatment chemistry.
