Catalytic oxidation has proven to be a feasible solution in volatile organic emissions abatement. In addition, earlier short-term tests have shown that catalytic oxidation is also applicable for the pulp mill odour emissions' abatement. This paper presents the results of recent experiments that have been carried out to study the catalytic incineration of chip silo emissions. The operation of the catalytic pilot process was regularly followed by emission measurements, and the catalysts were also tested in laboratory studies. It was found, that catalytic incineration can treat odorous emissions and the conversions can be even close to complete oxidation. However, some problems occurred due to terpenic compounds that formed polymeric material, which blocked the heat exchangers of the pilot incinerator.
