The effect of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) concentration, operation temperature on the desulfurization from liquified petroleum gas (LPG) was investigated in a continuously stirred cell gas-liquid reactor. The results show that: (1) the absorptivity for overall sulfur decreases rapidly with the decrease of NMP concentration. (2) NMP has high absorptivity for mercaptan (RSH) and carbonyl sulfide (COS) under the experimental conditions. The absorptivity for RSH remains above 80%. (3) the absorptivity for RSH and COS increases with temperature increases. In addition the absorptivity of NMP solution for sulfur after regenerated was also investigated. The absorptivity of NMP solution for overall sulfur after regeneration does not decrease while the absorptivity for COS increases. The reason may be that sour components absorbed can react with NMP and form a compound, which can hasten the hydrolysis of COS to CO_2 and H_2S. The hydrolysis can increase the absorptivity for COS.
