FUNDAMENTAL PULPING RESEARCH WITH PILOT DRUM PULPER

Metso Paper initiated an intensive research program in 2001 to increase the understanding of drum pulper operation and to optimize the pulper design and the slushing result in different applications. A unique facility was built at the Metso Inkeroinen pilot plant in Finland. The facility facilitates to study of the key factors of the drum pulper design in wide range of operating conditions. A specific priority was given to obtaining a visual observation inside the drum during the operation and to the study of the pulper dimensions. The paper presents new findings in drum pulpers design, operation and pulping conditions.
