摘要

The succesful operation of a 210 km, 10 Gbit/s, 1314 nm field transmission test in RZ format between the German cities of Kassel and Hannover is reported. The link included a number of newly developed devices such as a 1314 nm DFB RZ laser with integrated electro-absorption modulator, flexible STM-64 terminal equipment suitable for NRZ and RZ transmission, polarisation insensitive in-line semiconductor amplifers, and optical repeater units which were managed by a service channel at 1510 nm. The robustness of the system was demonstrated in particular with respect to the insertion of additional fiber connectors with plane facets and the presence of a relatively large PMD.
