A new power reserve calculation and optimization system. SIPORECS, is introduced. It was developed for maintaining predefined power supply reliability levels at minimized system fuel costs during daily unit commitment. Its versatile applicability is shovvn also as a tool for system investigations. Simulating the current system behavior during critical fault conditions. system optimization and last not least the evaluation of appropriate improvement measures belong to the main features. Not only improving the system reliability but also significant savings in system fuel costs can be expected by using the tool introduced.
